According to reporting in Up North News, “governors across the U.S. say they are facing a shortage of testing kits, respirators and protective gear for health care workers,” despite the fact that our current administration is touting the aid they’re provided to help states manage the outbreak.
Had the administration listened to numerous reports that hit his desk in January, and not downplayed the situation unfolding abroad, states might not be scrambling to get test kits they could have had long ago, the outlet reports.
These reports explicitly showed that China was misrepresenting the state of affairs in the city of Wuhan, where the coronavirus originated. Despite this, the administration has been singing China’s praises, and they’ve cited the country’s “transparency” in doing so.
Speaking at a Coronavirus Task Force press briefing last week, leaders from the administration stated, “If everyone makes this change or these critical changes and sacrifices now. We will rally together as one nation and we will defeat the virus and we’re going to have a big celebration all together.”
Yet Up North News reports that “hours earlier, a group of governors was told […] to not wait for any help from the federal government. ‘Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment — try getting it yourselves.’”
