In Dane County, a new Local Food Pick Up has been instituted where customers place an order online for drive-thru pickup at the Alliant Energy Center.

While some farms are offering delivery services, for farmers who are short on staff, or worried about employee safety, online orders could be a viable option.

Market manager, Sarah Elliott, said the Dane County market has seen a lot of interest from customers at their first pickup events. The organization is still working out some of the logistics, but they are planning to add more vendors as the season continues, she said.

Mary Uselman and her husband sell produce at farmers markets in the Madison area, and she will be one of the vendors participating in the Dane County food pick up initiative.
She told WPR that the pandemic has caused a lot of uncertainty for farms like hers.

“I just keep taking in orders and doing the best I can,” she said.
